September 2004

For about 3 weeks I’ve been working on the website for my Kiwanis club. Today I finished up the final touches. It’ll be ready for launch tomorrow, the first day of the Kiwanis year, and the day I become secretary… How cool is that!?

Check it out! Kiln Creek Kiwanis

Today I got a call from a lady named Tracy with Headway Corporation. I had applied for an HR Assistant there. Turns out they’re apparently a temp agency. I’m going in on Tuesday at one for an interview and tests. However, I’m not sure if I’m interviewing for the temp agency to get temp jobs, OR if I’m interviewing for the HR Assistant FOR the temp agency. Hmmm… Of well, any job is better than what I have now! Guess I’ll see what it’s all about.

So I figured I’d put together a list of all the jobs I have applied for thus far to show my not-so-good track record.

Gosh… that’s a lot (45 just by this list). I know there’s a few more I’ve forgotten, but I can’t think of them. My computer blew up this summer due to lightning, so I lost track of everything I had applied for prior to then. Currently the only thing that I have going for me is being a substitute teacher for Newport News. HOWEVER, I have YET to do anything with this because there are never any openings.

Yeah, I know I know… SOMETHING will come along.

As a sponsored youth member, one of the greatest things about Kiwanis was the free meals. From my freshman year in high school I could wake up early on Wednesday mornings and go to a Kiwanis meeting to learn about what was going on and indulge in free breakfast. Yum! I remember talking with Jenny Bedford every week about things, and admiring her cooking.

Then I entered CNU. Wait, CNU’s Circle K was sponsored by TWO, not one, but TWO Kiwanis clubs! That meant twice as many free meals :-) So Tuesday mornings I could have breakfast and Thursday afternoons I could have free lunch at Cheer’s (which has the BEST fries, by the way… although I haven’t been back since they rebuilt, so it could be crap.) Anyway, since I’m a Kiwanian now, the free meal thing has kind of worn off… until this week! Yes! This week the Williamsburg club had invited Tara and I (as president-elect and secretary-elect of Kiln Creek) to their officer induction dinner thing. A SIX (count ‘em, SIX) course meal is waiting for us tomorrow night! To make it even better, Carla called me this afternoon and asked if we wanted to go to the Colonial Capital dinner tonight. Haha… free meal for an unemployed person… do you even have to ask? So, we’re off tonight as well for a free meal! As long as it isn’t fish, we’ll be alright! YAY FOR FREE MEALS!

Still no job. I’ve applied to so many jobs, I’ve lost count. It’s probably over 50 by now. Job hunting is such a pain in the ass. I’ve only had three interviews. One was for a long term sub position for 8th grade world history that I would’ve been perfect for, but they wanted someone with teaching experience. They called me in the Friday before Labor Day Weekend for an interview, and they’re being picky?! HELLO! Then they didn’t call me to let me know I wasn’t chosen. Stupid people down here are so friggin’ rude.

The second and third interviews were on the same day, both for York County Schools. Both times I was interviewed by a Kiwanian, one being the head of human resources whom I had met before. I was heavily overqualified for both jobs, but apparently that was one reason not to hire me. I hate the fact that the stupid woman told me “If you ever need a job check us out in York County” and then when I do, they give me the shaft. Ha! See if I help her with anything if she needs it!

So right now I’m just sitting here as I have been for the past 5 months. I wish I was still in school, but it’s a little hard to take classes when you don’t have the money to pay for them, and you can’t get aid because you already have a degree. Oh well, such is life I suppose!

Yep, so Matt has his own website now. Circle K said they didn’t need the space anymore since they had gotten their own new website at freewebs. I changed the domain, and voila! New website for me! This was kind of like a long running idea anyway. People had suggested I start my own web design company. Not a bad idea, except I don’t know everything there is to know about web design, just the basics. But hey, it’s an idea. Anyway, so I installed this blog to randomly jot down stuff that comes to my mind. Who knows how often it will be updated, but it’s here if I need to use it.
