October 2005

So what’s going on? Clearly I haven’t written much since I started teaching. I’m usually at school from 7-7 each day. I had no idea it was this much work. Crazy! The worst part was that I’d have to come home and go to class with the University of Phoenix. Well, that, for the most part, is over.

During my last class my team attempted to submit a final paper. The UoP network ws down, so we couldn’t post it. Instead we emailed it to the facilitator. We later are told that we received a ZERO on it becuase she couldn’t accept things over email. Hmmm… so we couldn’t submit it due to THEIR network problems, and even though she had the paper, she refused to accept it. I wasn’t very happy about that. Turns out she did the same thing to a few other people.

In my current class, I finally decided to drop out of the MAED program. These online programs were supposedly “designed” for the working adult. That’s BS. I spent more time in meetings for these classes than I ever did in real school. What drew the line for me though, was the fact that they refused letting a classmate have time off to evacuate his home because of Hurricane Wilma. That’s RIDICULOUS!!!

After looking up Virginia’s requirements, it turns out I’d online need about 7 credits more to get my license. Well, as much as I dislike UoP, they do have tons of continuing ed classes that would meet these requirements. They’re cheaper, and they’re faster. I’m going to attempt taking those just to get done with my license. Granted I WON’T have a Masters degree, that’s okay. I really didn’t want a masters in education anyway. I want a masters in history. That I’ll work on later.

Alrighty, so that’s school. Prior to this I posted about getting engaged. Yes, that’s true. But I totally forgot something else. We’re BUYING a house! It’s in Gloucester, kind of behind the Wal-mart. It’s midway between Newport News and Lancaster, and there’s stuff to do. It’s a nice fit. The house is 4 bedroom on 6/10’s of an acre with a big shed in the backyard. The owners have been renovating it and putting down new hardwood floors and granite counter tops. We’re scheduled to close on November 1st. Yay! Hello for parties!

Okay, and finally, we’re getting married. When? Hmmm… We’re looking at November 4th, but we have to straighten out a place first. Tara made a site for us. As the details are developed, they will follow.

That’s right… and that somebody is me. I am officially engaged. Further news will follow…
