July 2006

Yesterday I spent the day with Tara. I took my car to the dealer to get some things fixed: the turn signals, side mirror, seat cushion, etc. While they had the car we took the Honda to the Pottery in Williamsburg to look for some wedding stuff, which we found. While there I got a call from the dealer about my car. I had some electrical problems which were causing the radio to blitz and the trip odometer to not work. To fix this, along with everything else, it would’ve been $1,000. Wow! (Just a side note, Kelly Blue Book has the car valued at $965.) Sure, I’m going to spend that much on my POS car. I just can’t get a break.

Anyway, we get home to find a message from Gloucester Schools on MY box, not Tara’s. It was human resources and they wanted to talk to me. Being after 5, I had to call them the next day, which I just did. As could be guessed, they had a social studies opening and asked me if I was still interested. Too bad I had signed a contract with Lancaster. Sure, I could’ve gotten out of it, but I’m still excited at being able to do World History I. Yeah, I’ll have to keep driving an hour each day rather than ten minutes.

Just goes to show how fate likes to screw around with me.

I’ve been a horrible blogger. There, I’ve said it. I broke blog commandment #1 - “Thou shalt update thine blog.” (And possibly #2 “Thing blog shalt not suck.”)

How much have I forgotten to talk about? Let’s see…

I’ve begun a Master’s program through Virginia Tech. It’s a Curriculum and Instruction degree with a concentration in Instructional Technology. I just completed my first “semester” of courses, and naturally I got all A’s. Whoohoo! Only 27 more credits to go. Let’s see, this is grad program #3… will I finish it this time? That could be a possibility.

Instructional Technology isn’t really a passion. It’s more like something I thought I could do to make myself more marketable. Then again, so is a Masters in History, which is what I also want to pursue. I’ve found a great online program through American Public University, which is actually a school environment designed for military personnel who are all over the world. But hey, it works for me too. They have a concentration in Classical and Ancient History, which is just what this nerd likes. I haven’t taken a class though them yet because I’m enrolled at Tech, but I think this fall I’m going to take a course this fall. Hell, I’ll just work on both programs at the same time!

Wedding plans are coming along. We’re going up to Delaware soon to get some stuff done. I can’t believe a month of my summer has already passed. A month ago I was at graduation. It’s kinda weird to not wake up and go to work, not to mention not seing my kids.

Tara and I bought a new car. It’s a 2006 Honda Civic. VERY NICE! This bad boy gets helluva great gas mileage. We traded in her cavalier, but it was well worth the trade. For those who have not bought a new car, if you go to do so, make sure you have lots of time. We were there for about 6 hours. Totally too long, but we had a really good sales rep. I’m sure we’ll be going back soon to trade in my hunk of junk sunfire for a CR-V or something.

Cleo and Caesar are doing just fine. They do the traditional cat things, that is, eat, sleep, play, poop. I’ll have to post some pictures. The ones I have in the photo album are almost a year old!

Nothing else to really update, at least not that I can think of. Yeah, anticlimatic I know. I guess I broke commandment #2 again.
