Teaching high school is a challenge for anyone. Even the most seasoned professional might find frustration knocking on the door every 58 minutes, but not Matt! I met Matt when I was a second year teacher, and it was his first. As an English teacher my subject is inexorably connected to history and how lucky I was that Matt Brent was my history partner. His enthusiasm for his subject and his ability to share with his students the joy for history is remarkable. Matt and I frequently dressed up in period costume to coordinate with the time period we were teaching. Matt was a popular and successful teacher. When he left Lancaster High School to teach at Rappahannock Community College many tears were shed and a lot of hands were clapping for joy.
